Roadmap

Where this is going

This roadmap describes the intended direction of the NEI project. It is directional, not a promise — priorities will be shaped by community input and evidence.

1

Core indicators Complete

Released the first standard version (NDR-1.0.0) with 7 indicators across 6 domains. Established the governance model, identifier system, and evidence methodology. The framework's core architecture — concept files, version files, taxonomy nodes, release manifests — is defined and stable.

2

Evidence review and community input Active

The candidate release (NDR-0.1.0C) introduced 30 indicators for community review. The March 2026 indicator review completed the first major cycle: 6 indicators were promoted to Standard, 11 redundant candidates were retired, and all remaining indicators were revised for clarity. The framework now has 26 active indicators (13 Standard, 13 Candidate). Community review of the remaining candidates is ongoing.

3

Standard release 2.0 Planned

Advance remaining well-evidenced candidate indicators to Standard. Consolidate the taxonomy — resolving domain overlaps, refining boundaries, and preparing a stable NDT-2.0.0 taxonomy version.

4

Tooling and assessment Future

Build practical tools for organizations to self-assess against the framework. Scoring logic, evidence submission workflows, and reporting formats. Explore third-party assessment pathways — defining what accredited verification looks like and how it can be made accessible to organizations of different sizes.

5

AI and LLM integrations Future

Deeper integration with AI systems: retrieval-optimised data structures, example datasets for model training and evaluation, integration patterns for HR technology platforms. The groundwork is already in place — indicators have stable identifiers and machine-readable formats — this phase builds on that foundation.
