Section titled “Base license — CC BY 4.0”The NEI taxonomy, indicators, proposals, and associated documentation are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0).
Under CC BY 4.0 you may:
- Share — copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format
- Adapt — remix, transform, and build upon the material
- Use commercially — incorporate NEI into commercial work, frameworks, or analysis
- Use internally — implement NEI inside your organization
The only requirement is attribution — credit atypical.business, link to the license, and indicate if changes were made.
Uses that do not require permission
Section titled “Uses that do not require permission”The following uses are explicitly supported and require no permission beyond attribution:

Commercial services — permission required
Section titled “Commercial services — permission required”Certain commercial services built around NEI require permission from the project. This is an additional condition beyond CC BY 4.0 that applies to commercial service providers.
Permission is required for:
- Consulting services marketed specifically as NEI advisory
- NEI-based certification or audit services
- NEI-branded training or accreditation programs
- Software products built primarily around NEI indicators
- Services that imply official NEI endorsement or partnership
Request permission or notify the project
Section titled “Request permission or notify the project”Use the contact form at atypical.business/licensing/ to:
- Notify the project that you are using NEI in a bond, loan, SPO, or workplace program (no permission needed — notification is appreciated)
- Request permission for commercial services built around NEI
